Video installation — Couvent des Jacobins

installation sonore diffusée en boucle, 60'

Born in 1963 in Athens, he lives in Paris.

Conceived for the contemporary art centre in Vassivière, Les appels (calls) (2002) takes on a new resonance in the Jacobins cloister. This sound piece is alive with anonymous voices which, seeming to speak out intermittently to visitors, stir doubt in those who hear them: who are they talking to? Where are they coming from? What do they want? These interjections evoke situations that are familiar from other, different or similar contexts. In spite of their relative discretion they insidiously upset the walker’s fragile assurance. With these incursions into our mental space, with these bits of disorder thrown into the flux of the everyday, Jason Karaïndros elicits unexpected reactions and positions.
