Born in 1961 in Barcelona, she lives.

Empty spaces and deserts are this artist’s privileged themes. Visual constructions, false appearances and trompe-l’oeil are some of the most characteristic tactics discernible in his photographs. That is why the festival has invited Montserrat Soto to think up a work for the Jacobins chapter house. This potently historic but empty space will, in the gaze of this artist, metamorphose into a total experience for the senses with the work untitled “Arcos” (Archs).

She is also presenting “Invernaderos”(Greenhouses), a series of images taken mainly in the Spanish province of Almería, but also in Fuerteventura (Canaries). Between them, these agricultural areas produce a high percentage of the fresh produce consumed in Europe. Since the 1970s, small family farms have been covering the land with plastic greenhouses to optimise exploitation. Most of the people employed in these greenhouses are immigrants (mostly from North and Sub-Saharan Africa, as well as Latin-America) living and working in precarious conditions.
