Born 1955 in San Rafael (USA), he lives in New York.

Christian Marclay was originally known as a punk rocker and for his stage performances combining music, film excerpts and cartoons. He was also one of the first artists to use turntables for their sound-producing possibilities. His art nearly always combines the visual and the musical. Many of his sculptural objects have a literal auditory dimension - for example the pillow made of crocheted magnetic tape (Record without a Cover, 1985).Fascinated by the visual forms corresponding to sound, exemplified by objects such as records, he is fascinated by strictly visual representations of music, whose codes he often diverts (e.g., false concert posters).

Guitar Drag (2000), a work recently acquired by the Fonds National d'Art Contemporain, is installed in les Abattoirs – Musée Frac Occitanie Toulouse.
