Born 1959 in Amstel (Netherlands), she lives in Amsterdam.

Marijke van Warmerdam makes films, photographs, sculptures and installations. Dealing with the "here and now" she often presents two distinct time frames simultaneously and is also interested in movement, particularly circular movement. Her 16mm films, usually showing everyday human actions captured in still shots, are looped so that the repetition creates a rhythm. The gaze anticipates. This world is dream-like.

At les Abattoirs – Musée Frac Occitanie Toulouse, Marijke van Warmerdam is presenting one of her latest works, a 16mm film entitled Met losse handen (2004), whose conception evokes the idea of infinity.
