Born in 1957 in Cherven Briag (Bulgaria), he lives in Sophia.

After training as a painter in Bulgaria under Communist rule, Nedko Solakov's history and fantasy prompted him to turn towards Conceptual Art. When the Berlin wall came down, in 1989, he produced Top Secret, a card catalogue containing autobiographical files, both written and graphic, in which he confesses to his collaboration with the police. Now an icon of the period of transition, the work opens up the way to a critical review of the past. In the following year, Encyclopedia Utopia brought together sheets of drawings and collages accompanied by witty and narrative captions which underscore the absurdity of all systems of thought and representation. Today an established international artist, Solakov subjects art and its institutional context to satirical activities which adopt the most varied of forms, ranging from performance to academic painting, and from interference to invasion. He covers the most unexpected of crannies with his funny little commentaries, forcing visitors into a kind of treasure hunt.

For les Abattoirs – Musée Frac Occitanie Toulouse, Nedko Solakov intervenes on the walls of the toilets.
