Rémy Jacquier

Born in 1972 in Chambéry (France), he lives and works in Nantes (France).

Rémy Jacquier sets up systems of equivalences which enable him to construct volumes, make pictures, and compose pieces of music from various sources, be they literary or choreographic. When he starts from a text (here just excerpts from Diderot), braille acts as a basis for this transcription; it is flattened, and the alignments of more or less regular circles turn into a complex alphabet that the artist interprets in order to work out the formal language of his sculpture. His works lend form to the articulations of thought; through plastic language they show the path taken by the idea; and they build the architecture of the conceptual shift. The maquettes invite you to walk around them, your gaze lost in the ins and outs of stairs and corridors. In the same way, his musical instruments seem caught in thoughtless movements which give them crazy, tortuous forms. This whole work traces strange trajectories and offers the onlooker a chance to roam, inviting him/her to pass through a thought the way you would a landscape.
