Sarah Fauguet and David Cousinard produce impressive sculptural environments. Their oeuvre organizes a Baroque ensemble made up of a host of different forms, like so many hints and clues offered to develop possible narratives. Combining the familiar codes of architecture, decoration, décor and furniture, they create a vocabulary of objects which work against discernment. The changes of scale, the concertina-like devices, and the incongruousness and fragmentation of these elements lend them a familiar strangeness. These well-known forms elude us, so uncertain does our encounter with them seem; they structure a global and inaccessible world in which the dull violence of a latent authority is expressed. Their art develops a complex system of montage which plunges the onlooker into the heart of a zone of permanent tension.
