Yvan Salomone, Neufcercles

© DR, Yvan Salomone

Born in 1957 in Saint-Malo (France), he lives there.

“Water paint": the assiduous praxis of the water colour, at the rate of one a week, ends up turning Yvan Salomone's work into a long chronicle, at the same time as it is a tireless odyssey through ports and harbours. Abandoned docks, stripped of all human presence, between ruin and construction site, are thus continually haunted by his liquid vision, places where modernity at once roams and lapses in a dry dock.

What does the dictum “Wherever I am going, I am already there” do for you?

I like imagining that, in so saying, objects will always be in their place...

What is your project or artistic proposal?

It's a repetition... or, otherwise put: on the wall, a few pictures filled with some formulae, taken from a series, which is today composed of 653 numbers.

What does art enable you to do?

Art, like the science of mirages, enables me to actually go and check that the few objects which appear and exercise me are in the right place...
