Born in 1962 in Mombasa (Kenya), she lives in Cologne (Germany).
Cosima von Bonin works with lots of other artists, including musicians and theoreticians. Using every possible artistic medium—paintings, sculptures, installations, textiles, performances, videos—and varied references ranging from art history to popular culture, the artist plays on the ambivalence of objects, and upsets middle-class conceptions of femininity.
Sprung from Martin Kippenberger’s rebellious circle of influence, this artist is one of Germany’s most prolific and influential. Having little exhibited in France she has devised an exhibition of new works for the basement rooms at the Abattoir museum.
