The ground floor and basement spaces of the Château d’Eau are hosting a selection of works by Marie Cool Fabio Balducci. Typical of the duo’s work since the mid-1990s, these sculptures are in a state of permanent activation.

The global logic informing the work of Marie Cool Fabio Balducci is an enigma which cannot be resolved in a definition. It illustrates a personal ethos that is constructed action by action through a very particular form of sociability whose principle could be formulated as follows: at what distance from others must I position myself to build a “living together” that is without alienation and a solitude that is without exile? The resulting actions (non-manipulated objects or drawings, in a very broad sense) offer no answer. These forms speak of a disciplined and autarkic life, close to those whose desires are chained to the paradox of unhampered freedom, privileging the Free Mind, emancipated and unencumbered by its own self.
