Ali Moini
My paradoxical knives
10.01.16 - 8:30PM-9PM
Dance — Studio du CDC
Born in 1975 in Shiraz (Iran)
The Iranian dancer and choreographer Ali Moini revisits the holy dances of the dervishes, introducing the idea of danger as a man spins around surrounded by knives. Using the staccato typical of Iranian singing, which he trained in as a young man, he sings a Sufi poem begging the heavens not to spin without him. This gyrating choreography places the performer in a floating system in which the words written on the floor are erased by his steps as he sings them. Sober, methodical, both implacable and poetic, this performance induces a strange kind of trance.
Coproduction with the Centre de Développement Chorégraphique Toulouse/Midi Pyrénées
