Sam Samore, Scenarios n°40, 1997

photogtraphie noir & blanc, 100 x 200cm

courtesy galerie Anne de Villepoix, Paris

Born in the United States, he lives and works in New York (USA).

Sam Samore made his name in the late 1980s with a series of very small photographs measuring barely a few centimetres, forcing the viewer to stick his or her nose on these black "spots". Enigmatic photographs of a detective's report. Recently the artist has been making photographs of enlarged mouths and eyebrows which he combines into a series. Entitled Allegory of beauty, these are swollen body parts or fragments of faces that look like stone. Like isolated statues.
