Bertrand Lavier

Installation — Cour de l'Archidiaconé

Bertrand lavier is simultaneously exhibiting photographs at the Docks.

Born in 1949 in Châtillon-sur-Seine (France), he lives and works in Paris.

Bertrand Lavier's work since the 1970s has mischievously questioned aesthetic categories and hijacked language and logic. From the objects he covers with a thick layer of paint "à la Van Gogh" to those he assembles in an incongruous manner, the work pursues a project around representation and its variations, with an attention to cultural symbols (thus everyday objects mounted in the manner of art objects in ethnographic museums).

He created an important piece for the Outside section, a Relief-Peinture (2000), a prefabricated facade composed of modules in aluminium, bright red enamelled sheet metal and smoked glass, which come as a staggered addition to the large wall of the Archdeaconry.
