Lars Sitlberg

Born in 1968 in Stockholm, he lives and works in Gothenburg, Sweden.

Lars Sitberg's videos Man on Ice (1998), Man on Water (1999) and Man on Air (1998-2000) present us with absurd situations. A man tries to accomplish seemingly impossible and in any case useless tasks: standing on ice with weights on his hands and feet, balancing on water, flying through the air. We watch these videos as if we were at the circus. We wait for the acrobat's fall, and the ambiguous pleasure of humiliation. Lars Siltberg's contemporary hero, like Coleridge's cursed 'old sailor', no longer masters his body but nevertheless persists in his project.

These videos, which were shown at the 2001 Venice Biennale, are presented for the first time in France.
