Women at work is a series of performances which the artist put on between 1999 and 2001. These videos show women hard at work. Whether sitting on the plankways of scaffolding and embroidering traditional Bosnian, patterns on the fabric covering them, or washing clothes in public baths in Turkey, these women are involved in painstaking, ritual and above all communal tasks.

For the artist, the movments and gestures of these women – such as sewing and washing – symbolize the desire to bring individual labours together in a single collective work of reconstruction, mending and ablution, in a society torn asunder by war and suffering.
