Born in 1950 in Olomouc (Czech Republic), he lives in Prague.

Since the early 1990s, Stratil has been producing self-portraits. With a specific sensibility, his pictures explore themes such as double identity, the conscious and the unconscious, time and memory. Stratil presents people who are almost invariably characterized by clothes put together with everyday objects or disguised, and skirts the limits of eccentricity and everydayness alike. Stratil's powerful images also refer to the processes of self-identification and the representation of the "ego" as "other".
