Born in 1955 in Reims (France), he lives in Paris.

Presented as an ensemble here for the first time, Jean-Luc Moulène’s series of Documents/ Produits de Palestine (Documents/Products of Palestine) consists of 24 photographs. The object, which was the central motif in one of his previous series (Objets de grève [Strike Objects]) now acquires a different status: manufactured, it becomes a consumer item, just like any other. The title of this work nevertheless informs us that these products are not exactly like any other. Made in Palestine, they constitute a concrete trace of an economic activity in a state that does not exist: “These products are in fact fictions”, emphasises the artist. School exercise books, oil cans, bottles of beer – all the articles have the attributes of merchandise but many of them have no recorded existence anywhere else. They are outside the channels of mass distribution.
