Wevie Stonder

Concert — École des beaux-arts de Toulouse

The name "Wevie Stonder" immediately gives a taste of the delirious spirit of this band, formed in 1993 in Birmingham by Itchy Genius and M.C. Hat, soon joined by two other acolytes, Henry Music and Mr Vast. Released for the most part on the Skam label, but also on Sonig, their discographic opuses are a succession of tracks, each one more hilarious than the other, satirical, energetic and beautifully constructed. With the declared intention of making fun of the "pop attitude", they mix detuned guitars, offbeat samples, untimely scratches and absurd lyrics. The genres follow one another, from silly reggae to bizarre rock, via break-beat, when it's not accelerated polka on a kazoo background. With costumes, props and projections, the stage performances of these four English satirists reflect a scathing sense of humour.
