Creation and performance: Eva Meyer-Keller
Cherries have a fine, soft skin, and tender flesh that envelops a kind of bone. Their juice is red like blood. When you handle them the way humans sometimes handle humans, they themselves become human, or at least become animated objects we can identify with. Inspired by fairy tales in which objects come to life and serve as the support on which we project our fantasies, Eva Meyer-Keller has made cherries into the protagonists of her performance. The fruits are methodically killed, and she carries out this task with meticulous care, so that everyday actions suddenly become horrific. Drawing on shared cultural memories, an inherited stock of images of killing, she also reminds us of many deaths in the movies or in books, or of real executions.
Born in 1972, Eva Meyer-Keller studied photography and visual arts in London and Berlin then went to the School of New Dance Development (SNDD) in Amsterdam. Her work has been shown in galleries and theatres in Europe and the United States. She has performed, among others, for the Baktruppens, Jérôme Bel, Christine de Smedt and Les Ballets C. de la B.
With the amiable support of Vooruit (Belgium), and Stuk (, Belgium).
