Two motionless silhouettes stand out against a black backdrop. As soon as they start to move about like puppets, an impression of something strange very gradually comes over the audience. No narrative plot guides their jerky, repetitive movements; the different parts of the body seem to move independently of each other; the faces and gazes are impassive, as if masked. In an absolute silence, a slow mechanical movement starts up. By staging disembodied and objectivized bodies, moving without ever shifting in space, Hélène Iratchet creates a hypnotic performance, halfway between spectacle and exhibition.
