Alexandre Désirée

Born in 1984, he lives in Paris.

This young artist has worked with various techniques before concentrating his work on the medium of painting. As he says himself: "I decided in 2006 to limit my practice to painting. Having previously created painted volumes, installations and murals, I wanted to limit painting to its "conventional" medium, without losing any of its objective, ornamental and interactive qualities with the viewer.

Grégory Derenne

Born in 1978 in Paris, he lives there.

This painter of the urban world takes a photographic look at large cities, which he then reproduces freehand, in acrylic, on a black cotton canvas. Light under-exposure, deliberately blurred framing, characters painted in a real and spontaneous disorder, Grégory Derenne's paintings blur the frontier between fiction and reality to recreate lively scenes marked by spontaneity, as he sees them through his camera. His favourite subjects come from the world of urban social events.

The former, educated in the major history of abstraction as much as in its post-modern revivals, proposes to reintroduce onto the scene of the painting problems and compositions that constructivism had invalidated. The second looks at painting through the screen of the cinema, the theatre or television sets. Perhaps painting can no longer produce images other than in the mirror of films. The scenes of the painting are repeated for the first, and the paintings stage the places where images are produced for the other. In this cross-pollination, a possible field for painting after painting is sketched out.
