Dominique Figarella
Untitled, 2008
Collection Les Filles du calvaire
Born in 1966, he lives in Castelnau-le-Lez (France).
Since the early 1990s, Dominique Figarella has been producing rigorous, erudite and playful art in an ongoing meditation on the practice of painting. Each of his paintings is like a system to be deciphered, articulating materials that are customary or unusual in painting (Plexiglas, chewing gum) with incongruous objects (tennis balls, plungers) which are used as tools but also for their visual qualities. In a complex interplay of decisions and accidents, actions and traces, painting, conceived as a resolutely abstract process, works towards the figuration of the act of painting.
