Born 1973 in Leuven (Belgium), he lives and works in Antwerpen (Belgium).

Outward-bound by video artist Wim Catrysse references a certain idea of science fiction, not in the sense of a technological fantasy, but as a means of representing a culture from historical and topographical viewpoints. Shot around the crater of an active volcano in East Java, the film shows coagulating forms and huge jets of sulphurous smoke that undermine our usual conception of landscape in what is an unreal, almost fictive vision. We don’t know if what we’re seeing belongs to the past, has just occurred, or will be occurring some time in the future.

Catrysse devises his projection devices specifically for the host venue, using them to question and condition the spectator, who becomes involuntarily immersed in the images.
