Thoughts are born while we speak, according to Kleist. Seated in front of his paintings in Croissy-Beaubourg, the painter Anselm Kiefer comments on his work and inspirations. The person interviewing him off the record is the writer, essayist and film director Alexander Kluge. The film introduces us to the inti- macy of a conversation which is not only profound, but also surprising and entertaining. From tunnels to starry processions, the film contains tremen- dous gravitational tempests as well as visible and invisible images.
