Born in 1957 in London, she lives between California, London and Barcelona.

Internationally renowned for her photographs, Hannah Collins has filmed the everyday life of a gypsy community in La Mina, Barcelona, in 35mm. The members of the community act out stories and sequences based on the script worked out by their main leader, Manuel Fernández Cortes, and the artist herself. Earning the trust of this gypsy community by her own unstinting involvement, Collins adapted her script in response to daily incidents that occurred within the group. The more than 13 hours of footage that resulted were the basis of a video installation conceived earlier this year in which she selects five autonomous stories that, taken together, show various aspects of the social and cultural configuration of the gypsies at La Mina.
