Aurélien Richard

Hoketus questions the relationship between choreographic structures and musical scores. Based on a choreographic motif, Aurélien Richard has worked out a danced score constructed on the model of the great fugues composed by Bach, Beethoven, and Messaien. Transcribed by the dance notation specialist Laban Christine Caradec, this score was then handed on to the dancer Mickaël Phelippeau who, likewise, adapted and re-interpreted it.

What does the festival’s subtitle “Here where I am doesn’t exist” do for you?
In Hoketus, there is a generation of matter, worked by introducing two foreign bodies into an initial structure, prior to rehearsals and the performance: a Laban score for the movement, notes for the music, programming for the acoustic spatialization and the light. However, these independent bodies, combining virtuosity, spirit and presence, are re-linked to this matter, at the same time as they increase the perception of its re-presentation. But what happens when the performer/generator of matter leaves the stage, vanishes, while this latter continues to invade the space of the performance? And the place of this disappearance… where is it? The performer is where it doesn’t exist, or else in a kind of very vague place, the place of expectation or oblivion.
