Born in Tours (France) in 1970, lives and works in Paris

 

Without doubt one of the most gifted filmmakers of his generation, Jean-Charles Fitoussi is also one of the least well-known. Why? Because his films – singular, mixing different media, of variable duration, and with powerfully evocative literary titles – are almost impossible to see. Les jours où je n’existe pas (2002), Nocturnes pour le roi de Rome (2010: the first film shot wholly on a mobile phone) and L’Enclos du temps (2013) are part of a series titled Le Château de Hasard. Some were made in phases over a period several years, as and when film, actors and technicians were available, or inspired by people he met and places he saw. From one work to the next, sometimes over as much as ten years, characters and stories connect and respond to each other. Le Château de Hasard proceeds by levels and additions, Le Rez-de-Jardin, a cycle of 8 films and a half, being completed...
