Résonances: second mouvement is the second part of a project researching rhythm in the visual arts, poetry, sound, music and dance. Drawing on the writings of Léopold Sédar Senghor and the history of the American musical avant-garde, this project reveals little-known connections between the traditional arts of Africa, the cultures of its diaspora and the broader field of contemporary art.

Scores by John Cage will be presented here in their historical context, along with works by the artist and musician Satch Hoyt examining the experience of the African diaspora, a post-colonial reading of Swan Lake by Yinka Shonibare MBE (RA), as well as paintings based on traditional bikutsi dances by the young Cameroonian artist Madeleine Mbida.
